Seasoned corporate communications professional Pierre Mejlak has been named Chief of Media Relations and Assistant Director at United States-based International Monetary Fund (IMF), he announced on Wednesday.

“Humbled to be serving IMF at such a pivotal moment for multilateralism and global cooperation,” Mr Mejlak shared.

He joins after leading International Finance Corporation's (IFC) Media and Digital team for over three, expressing "heartfelt gratitude" towards them and those at the whole World Bank Group. "True professionals, from whom I have learnt so much," Mr Mejlak added.

Prior to this, he served as Head of Campaigns and Corporate Communications Manager at the European Commission for almost seven years and was a Visiting Speaker in Corporate Communications at the European Institute of Public Administration for four years. Additionally, Mr Mejlak worked as Head of Public Information Secretariat at Ministry within the Office of the Prime Minister of Malta, as well as Administrator and Team Coordinator at the Council of the European Union and the Publications Offices of the European Union, respectively. He is also an experienced journalist, having worked as Correspondent at BBC News and Head of News and Content at Calypso FM.

He holds a Bachelor of Communications (Honours) from University of Malta, and a Master of Arts in Global Diplomacy from SOAS University of London.

Established in 1944 as part of the United Nations system, IMF is key in “promoting the health of the world economy”. It is primarily focused on ensuring the stability of the international monetary system, which is essential for sustainable economic growth and rising standards of living.
