Melita Limited’s Chief Executive Officer Harald Roesch has stated that the company’s mission “is to deliver communication products that rank top tier in Europe for value; the results of this research show that we have succeeded”.

This statement comes after research conducted by Cable.co.uk, an organisation dedicated to helping consumers compare the price of broadband internet across the world, revealed that Malta has the cheapest cost per megabit throughout Western Europe.

The research analysed the cost of broadband internet in 220 countries worldwide, finding that consumers in Malta access broadband internet for €0.07 per megabit, which is two cents less than the likes of Andorra, Spain and Portugal, the countries that followed Malta in the list.

When the cost of internet access worldwide was considered, Malta places 12th cheapest at $0.08 (€0.07) per megabit.

Mr Roesch said that “This is the good news for Malta, which enjoys an excellent reputation for the quality and resilience of its telecommunications infrastructure.”

“The investment which our industry, particularly Melita, has made to bring superfast internet to the whole country, together with the vibrant competition that exists between providers, continues to deliver quality services to customers at some of the best prices globally,” Roesch added.

Moving beyond Malta, results showed that numerous Eastern European countries including Romania, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia, along with Asian countries Singapore and Thailand, lead the list on a cost per megabit basis in US Dollars.

The data indicated that the most expensive broadband internet in Western Europe is in Norway, Denmark, the Faroe Islands, and Iceland.
