The Malta International Airport has just taken to their Facebook page to warn the public about fake Facebook pages impersonating the airport, fraudulently claiming that they are selling lost luggage.
The airport’s social media post said that MIA is not currently selling any luggage, and do not intend to, either. They reminded the public that any official updates from the company are communicated through www.maltairport.com and their verified social media.
“If you come across any suspicious links, pages or messages related to lost luggage sales, we urge you to report them immediately”, warned the company, with people in the comment section stating that they had come across this scam and reported it immediately.
It is not the first time that MIA has had to issue a similar warning. Earlier this year, in May, it first raised the issue and shared screen shots of the scam social media pages. One in particular was called ‘Malta International Airp0rt,’ and included links that would redirect users to a suspicious website.
