Malta International Airport (MIA) on Thursday released a statement warning customers about a Facebook page and a website that are claiming that the airport is selling lost luggage for €1.

MIA shared screenshots of the posts from the scam pages, highlighting that these pages are impersonating the airport.

The page in particular was named ‘Malta International Airp0rt,’ and included links that would redirect users to a suspicious website. As at the time of writing, the page has still not been taken down.

MIA warned users not to visit such pages, click any of their links, or share any personal information requested by them.

“If you come across similar pages, or receive suspicious links and messages related to this, we urge you to report them immediately,” MIA continued.

This is not the first time that these scam pages and websites have been created, with similar posts – some of which are sponsored through Facebook advertising – circulating over recent months. Similar to Thursday’s case, MIA had also issued warnings against these pages last January and in November 2023.
