Mgr. Prof. Emmanuel Agius has been appointed as the new President of the St John’s Co-Cathedral Foundation, it announced today.

The former Dean of the Faculty of Theology at the University of Malta, Mgr. Prof. Agius studied philosophy and theology in Malta and Belgium. Currently, he is professor of moral theology and philosophical ethics at the University of Malta.

Mgr. Prof. Agius pursued his post-doctoral research in the field of bioethics at the University of Tübingen in Germany, at Georgetown University in Washington and at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, USA.

Since 2005, he has been a member of the European Group of Ethics in Science and New Technologies (EGE), an advisory interdisciplinary group to the European Commission, and a member of the Pontifical Academy for Life.

Malta’s Archbishop, Mgr. Charles Scicluna, appointed Prof. Agius as a member of The St John’s Co-Cathedral Foundation on 1st August 2019, and his new appointment as its President comes into effect from today.

The St John’s Co-Cathedral Foundation is responsible for the administration of the UNESCO World Heritage site, ensuring its effective conservation and management as a historic and architectural monument, as well as a place of worship.
