Mulberry has entered a new phase of its development after receiving regulatory approval from the Malta Financial Services Authority to convert from Mulberry Insurance Brokers Ltd to Mulberry Insurance Brokers PCC Ltd.
By becoming a Protected Cell Company (PCC), Mulberry has adopted a corporate structure that enables it to establish legally separate "cells" within the same company, with each cell ring-fencing its own assets and liabilities. This allows the business to develop tailored insurance and risk management solutions while providing greater flexibility for clients and strategic partners.
Protected Cell Companies are widely used in Malta's insurance sector, particularly by organisations seeking to establish captive insurance arrangements or specialist insurance programmes. The structure enables multiple insurance programmes to operate independently under a single legal entity, offering operational efficiencies while protecting each cell from the liabilities of the others.
Commenting on the milestone, Mulberry Founder and Managing director Ivan Buttigieg described the approval as the culmination of years of work and a platform for the company's next stage of growth.
He thanked the company's employees, clients, international partners, professional advisers and the MFSA for their support throughout the process.
Mr Buttigieg said the new structure strengthens Mulberry's ability to respond to evolving client needs while supporting businesses seeking more sophisticated and bespoke insurance solutions.
He added that the conversion reflects the company's long-term strategy rather than a short-term milestone.
