With COVID-19 making the headlines around the world, it’s easy to forget the angst, and suffering being faced by people with frightening illnesses such as cancer, motor-neurone diseases, as well as renal and liver conditions.
But, five employees from telecommunications firm, Melita, recently decided to step in and give what they could, despite the economic hit being faced by everyone across the islands.
“Joe Abdilla, Fabian Cassar, Julian Fenech, Mike Mifsud and Darren Sciberras have decided to donate the €125 bonus given to them by their company to Hospice Malta,” the palliative care specialists said in a Facebook post.
And, it seems that the extra cash had been given to the five as a reward for stepping up their game during the coronavirus crisis.
“This bonus was given to them for continuing to perform their job in installing new services and maintenance on the company network during the COVID-19 pandemic,” the Facebook post read.
Hospice Malta provides high-level support to thousands of patients suffering from chronic or terminal diseases, as well as their loved ones and the wider community. Every year, the team help upwards of 1,300 families, giving 42,000 care hours per year. The well-known institution, and its professional doctors, nurses, social workers, complementary therapist, physiotherapist and psychologist, are on hand to provide advice, equipment, home care, transport, respite care, and hospital support – as well as a summer children’s programme – for those who are going through treatment.
