Malta Entertainment Industry and Arts Association (MEIA) has announced the appointment of Denise Perini and Lisa Baldacchino as the first co-chairs of its Youth Advisory Committee.

Unveiling their addition on social media, the MEIA said that along with other young professionals, they will lead the association’s work with youths and “ensure full representation of young and emerging professionals within Malta’s fastest-growing network of arts and entertainment industry professionals”.

Both co-chairs are fresh out of university, having completed undergraduate degrees in the performing arts from the University of Malta and MCAST, and they have been freelancing for three years in the arts, the MEIA said.

Taking to social media to welcome the appointment, Ms Perini described herself as “beyond excited and honoured to be spearheading the newly set up Youth Advisory Committee alongside [Ms Baldacchino]".

“Youth representation within the arts and entertainment industry is something that now – more than ever – justifies the need for a fight.

“The pandemic has seen too many young people forfeit the sector, lose interest or seemingly become apathetic because of lack of representation”, she wrote.

Ms Perini also thanked MEIA President Howard Keith Debono and Vice-President Toni Attard for taking ideas on board and trusting the co-chairs with “such a massive task”, saying, “we promise to do our best to try to promote the high standards of quality, professionalism and to be open to learning from the best, so that we may become the future of the sector”.
