MeDirect Bank’s parent company has entered into an exclusivity agreement with Banka CREDITAS, that may see the Malta-registered bank being bought in its entirety by Czech bank.

MeDirect Bank (Malta) plc is owned by MDB Group Limited. The direct shareholder is Medifin Finance Limited.

On Wednesday 21st August (yesterday), MeDirect Bank announced that under the new exclusivity agreement, all shares of MDB Group Limited may be bought by Banka CREDITAS.

It added that under the terms of the new agreement, all previous discussions related to the sale of the bank have been terminated. This includes a previous agreement, announced last year, with a consortium of investors led by Majoris Holdings

Banka CREDITAS is a Czech financial institution that is part of Creditas Group, a privately-owned investment group with investments primarily in financial services, real estate and energy.

The financial services arm of CG has investments in banking, investment services, asset management, leasing and other related areas.

Banka CREDITAS obtained a banking licence in 2017 after operating since 2016 as a savings association. It now has over 200,000 clients.

Since then, it has embarked on a wave of acquisitions, bringing its total assets to CZK 131 billion (€5.23 billion).

It is owned by CREDITAS Group, a Czech investment group based in The Netherlands. Its founder and owner is Pavel Hubáček. As of 2021, he was listed as the 24th richest person in Czechia by Forbes.
