team of nearly 100 athletes from Malta, including representatives from the Malta Employees Sport Association (MESA), competed at the 2025 European Company Sport Games in Calvia, Mallorca, from 25th to 29th June.

The Maltese contingent delivered an impressive performance, securing 18 medals across multiple disciplines. This year marked MESA’s 10th consecutive participation in the event, showcasing Malta’s growing presence in international company sports.

The athletes represented a variety of local companies and organisations, competing against employees from international corporations. In bowling, the Bank of Valletta (BOV) team of Ernest Agius, Alan Attard, Gordon Genovese, and Nicholas Muscat claimed a silver medal in Category A. Meanwhile, BOV’s Alison Borg and Martha Fenech secured another silver in the Women’s Open Beach Volleyball Tournament. The Malta International Airport (MIA) bowling team, consisting of Rene Bartolo, Simon Mizzi, Luke Mercieca, and Aaron Belli, also earned a silver in Category B.

Track and road events were particularly successful for Malta. APS Bank’s Aaron Mifsud stood out with five medals, including four golds in the 5000m, 1500m, 800m, and 10K Open City Run (Category C), plus a silver in the 400m. His colleague Darren Agius added two silvers in the 5000m and 10K Open City Run. David Bezzina of the Malta Police Force won two bronze medals in the 200m and 400m (Category C). Gerald Grech, representing the University of Malta, took home three medals, including gold in the 5K Open City Run (Category C). Peter Azzopardi secured two golds in the 800m and 5K (Category E), while Caroline Ciappara earned silver in the 5K (Category C).

In the Football 5-a-side competition, five Maltese teams faced 24 international sides. Four teams advanced to the Round of 16, with the Correctional Services Agency (CSA) finishing fourth overall. Tennis also saw strong Maltese participation, with 13 players from Rinella Tennis Club competing across categories.

During the event, MESA officials attended the European Federation for Company Sport Executive Meeting and General Assembly, where preparations for the 2026 World Company Sport Games in Denmark were discussed. MESA looks forward to leading another strong Maltese delegation at the upcoming tournament.

MESA congratulated all participants, stating, "On behalf of the MESA Committee, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to all medalists and participants for their dedication and efforts. Their performances have once again made Malta proud on the international stage of company sports."

The European Company Sport Games, first held in 1977 in Eindhoven, promote health, wellbeing, and teamwork among employees across Europe.

The biennial event brings together thousands of participants from multiple countries, to foster a sense of camaraderie through sports. Malta’s success in 2025 is their best yet.
