On Thursday evening, Assistant Head at Hamrun Secondary school San Gorg Preca College, Joanna Cassar, tragically passed away.
By Friday morning, social media was filled with messages of sadness and condolences, by friends, family, colleagues, as well as former and current students.
Early on Friday, San Gorge Preca College of Blata l-Bajda, wrote:
“This morning with a very heavy heart, both as a school and as part of our College, we are announcing the passing of Ms Joanna Cassar, who left this earth yesterday evening. Ms Joanna Cassar served as an Assistant Head here at Blata l-Bajda between 2014 and 2016.
“Till yesterday she was serving as an Assistant Head at San Gorg Preca College, Hamrun Secondary School.
“Her memory will stay forever in our hearts, remembering her for her cheerful personality, dedication and most for all for her love towards her dear students. We thank you Ms Joanna Cassar. May you now rest in peace!”
Yesterday afternoon, San Gorg Preca College Hamrun broke the sad news via its Facebook page:
Among the sea of condolences, former Opposition Leader Simon Busuttil described her as a “beautiful and gentle soul”, sharing that he has known Joanna for a lifetime.
She acted as a mentor to many teachers-in-training, carrying out their teacher practice and submitting their final projects under her guidance.
