Malta Food Agency Chief Business Development Officer Justin John Camilleri on Sunday highlighted the “successful” launch that the agency's Vittoriosa Farmers Market enjoyed on Saturday.

“It was a productive week at Malta Food Agency, as we continued our efforts to enhance the success of the Farmers Market,” he said.

He remarked that the agency was “delighted” to see its “hard work” pay off through the “successful launch” of the Farmers Market on Saturday.

The market will continue to be held every Saturday and will aim to “keep building on the success achieved” on the first day. The launch signalled the return of a weekly farmers’ market held in Vittoriosa, seven years after a similar one hosted by the city’s local council stopped taking place.

The new market is currently open to farmers who do not have a stall at the Farmers Market in Ta’ Qali, which has overseen a rise in popularity over the last 12 years.

The Ta’ Qali market opens on Saturdays and Tuesdays.

“We are committed to providing a platform for local producers to showcase their products and offering consumers access to high-quality, fresh and locally sourced food,” Mr Camilleri added.

“We will continue to work towards promoting sustainable practices and supporting the local economy through our initiatives,” he concluded.

Mr Camilleri, together with Malta Food Agency CEO Brian Vella, visited the market on Saturday morning, where they had the opportunity to gather feedback about the initiative “directly from the food producers and consumers”.

Established in 2021 by the Ministry for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights, Malta Food Agency is tasked with delivering public services in relation to food deriving from farming and fisheries. Its vision is for Malta to have locally produced food from farming and fishing of “higher value” by working to “support and strengthen” the transformation of food along the value chain, supporting sales and marketing from production, trading, processing, and food manufacturing.
