Massimo Farrugia has been named President at the Malta Aviation Society (MAS), it announced on Wednesday.

This comes after the organisation held its Biennial General Meeting on Sunday, during which a new committee was also elected.

Mr Farrugia, who has been an active committee Member for a number of years, replaces outgoing President Joe Ciliberti, who spent 31 years in the role. In turn, Mr Ciliberti was unanimously voted as Honorary President for his “commitment and service” to MAS over the years.

The new committee is also made up of Roderick Agius, Renald Aquilina, Brendon Attard, Roberto Cassar, Ruben Falzon, Shaun Psaila, Joanne Zammit, and Ryan Zerafa.

“We thank all Members who were present and look forward to a prosperous term,” MAS said.

MAS, which was founded over 50 years ago, aims to raise interest in the aviation industry, particularly by organising the Malta International Airshow, held on an annual basis at the Malta International Airport. The show returned after a three-year absence in 2021, as the 2018 and 2019 editions were not held due to a lack of funds, while the 2020 was cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
