On Thursday, Lidl Malta Ltd announced a strategic international partnership with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
The new partnership will involve 31 countries and will focus on addressing the global ecological challenges, with the aim of ensuring that more households have access to more sustainable choices.
Lidl Malta Director Owen Micallef noted that in its role as “one of the largest food retailers,” Lidl is aware of its responsibility and influence.
“We take responsibility with the aim of doing business within planetary boundaries. For Lidl, sustainable management is the basis for the future viability of our business model,” he commented.
This partnership aims to drive sustainability as part of its international CSR strategy.
In its announcement, Lidl Malta affirmed that it is committed to sourcing raw materials responsibly, combating food waste, and also protecting the climate and biodiversity.
“Comprehensive, ambitious sustainability targets across the entire retail value chain form the core of the collaboration, with the aim of providing customers with more sustainable choices,” Lidl stated.
WWF collaborates with local communities to conserve natural resources that humans and nature depend on.
Together with partners, WWF transforms markets and policies towards sustainability, tackles climate crisis concerns, protect and restore wildlife and their habitats.
