Prohealth Limited announced on Tuesday (today) the appointment of Juanito Camilleri to its Board of Directors as Non-Executive Director. Prof Camilleri will also be serving as Non-Executive Director on the Board of TrioMed Ltd, a subsidiary fully owned by Prohealth Ltd.
Prof Camilleri has a distinguished career in both academia and industry. He has served as Rector and Vice-Chancellor at the University of Malta (UOM) for 10 years between 2006 and 2016 and he still serves there as Professor and chairman of the Centre of Entrepreneurship and Business Incubation. He has sat on various boards, in industries ranging from telecommunications, information technology, education, research and banking.
Prof Camilleri obtained a first-class honours degree in computer science from the University of Kent in 1984, then went on to pursue a doctorate in theoretical computer science at the University of Cambridge between 1987 and 1990. He started his professional career as a research fellow at the Computer Laboratory of the University of Cambridge but came back to Malta in 1992 to set up the Department of Computer Science and AI at the UOM.
Prof Camilleri currently serves as an independent Non-Executive Director on the Board of APS Bank Malta plc and is Chairman of the bank's Risk Committee. He also serves as a Director on the Board of Malta University Investments Portfolio (MUIP) and is Chair of its two subsidiaries, De Novo Cell Ltd. and FLASC B.V.
He is married to Astrid Camilleri, an Obstetrician Gynaecologist, and they have a daughter, Bettina. The Camilleri's are owners of St. Anne’s Clinic and Ta’ Betta Wine Estates Ltd.
