Mikiel Anton Vassalli College (MAVC), Malta School of Music has appointed Jes Grixti as its Head of School.
Commenting on the appointment, Head of College Network Victor Galea said that so far Dr Grixti has already shown an “unwavering commitment to the MAVC, Malta School of Music.”
“He is looking forward to applying his democratic and egalitarian management style where everyone’s voice (staff and learners) is heard and acknowledged,” Mr Galea said while wishing him success in his new role.
Dr Grixti is a composer, academic and pedagogue with an international reputation.
The school noted that Dr Grixti frequently collaborates with local and international performers and his music is “regularly featured at prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall in New York, United States.”
His music is released by music companies MPS (UK), Divine Art (Europe), and ABC (Australia).
Furthermore, Dr Grixti’s research in informal/non-formal music education and community music practice has been showcased at a number of international conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals, notably the Australian Journal for Music Education.
Additionally, he is also one of the International Society for Music Education (ISME)’s academic reviewers.
Currently, Dr Grixti is a visiting lecturer at the Faculty for Education within the University of Malta. In the past, he has also taught at local and international schools in different educational settings. This includes the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme.
Dr Grixti is a doctoral graduate of the Conservatorium of Music at the University of Melbourne, Victoria, Austria.
