The Institute of Tourism Studies has announced the passing of Kekoo Modi.

Mr Modi was widely known among students and alumni of the Institute for his close involvement in supplying culinary and hospitality literature. For many learners, his role extended beyond that of a bookseller, as he regularly engaged students in conversation and shared guidance as they embarked on their academic and professional journeys.

Over the years, Mr Modi developed a reputation for thoughtfully recommending books tailored to individual interests and career paths, often maintaining contact with students as they progressed within the industry. Many former students recall receiving handwritten notes with their books, offering words of encouragement and personal insight.

His contribution also included the donation of a number of culinary publications to the Institute’s library, strengthening its academic resources and supporting future generations of students.

Many people on social media recalled the meetings they had with him and the knowledge he passed on, with one person saying he "was the corridor of knowledge."

In a statement, the Institute described Mr Modi’s influence as quiet but lasting, noting that his work helped foster learning, curiosity and excellence within Malta’s culinary and hospitality sectors.
