HSBC Malta is close to finalising its nationwide ATM replacement programme, an initiative that will see all 62 of its machines in Malta and Gozo replaced with new, state-of-the-art models.

The bank says that its upgraded ATMs are designed to provide a smoother and more reliable customer experience, offering enhanced uptime, increased stability, and improved day-to-day functionality. The aim is to ensure that customers can access essential banking services more efficiently at any time.

A key part of the programme focuses on accessibility.

HSBC Malta has upgraded its ATM sites to meet the latest standards set by the Commission for the Rights of Persons with Disability (CRPD). This includes improved signage, upgraded lighting, and ATM layouts and heights designed to offer better ease of access for all users.

The bank worked closely with the CRPD when redesigning ATM areas and lobbies, ensuring that all customers – including those with disabilities – can use the facilities independently and comfortably.

Alongside the upgrades, HSBC has relocated several ATMs to more convenient locations in San Ġwann, Żabbar, Balzan, Żebbuġ and soon Marsaskala. New ATMs have also been installed in high-traffic areas such as St Julian’s (Eden) and Sliema (Neptunes), with another planned for Bir id-Deheb in response to customer demand.

Muriel Rutland, Head of Wealth and Personal Banking at HSBC Malta, said the project reflects the bank’s broader commitment to enhancing service quality. “We are investing in technology, infrastructure and new locations to make everyday banking simpler, faster and more inclusive for all our customers. These upgrades ensure that customers across Malta and Gozo can enjoy a seamless, reliable service whenever and wherever they need it.”
