Herald Bonnici has joined the International Advisory Council of Sovereign Investors, a company specialising in providing advisory services to sovereign wealth funds, central banks, state-owned enterprises and other public investors globally.
He was welcomed into the role by CEO Kristian Flyvholm, inaugural CEO of the International Forum of Sovereign Wealth Funds, former Chief Investment Officer of the central bank of the United Arab Emirates, Senior Advisor at the International Monetary Fund and Head of Investments at the central bank of Denmark.
Mr Flyvholm described Mr Bonnici as “a seasoned figure in the realms of financial engineering and corporate governance with a strong career that spans both the public and private sector.”
He noted that Mr Bonnici’s former role as CEO of Malta Government Investments, the holding company of state-owned companies like Gozo Channel, WasteServ and Enemed, saw him manage a portfolio of companies worth €400 million.
Mr Bonnici also played a crucial role in the establishment of the Europe, Middle East and North Africa (EMENA) Sovereign Fund Network, and currently serves as Secretary General of the Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (PEVCA) Malta.
Mr Bonnici said he is “honoured and delighted” with the appointment, adding that he is looking forward to collaborating with Mr Flyvholm and other colleagues from the sovereign wealth funds network.
Other members of Sovereign Investors’ International Advisory Council include Niels Thygesen, a long-time Chair of the European Fiscal Board, former Swedish Minister for Employment Sven Otto Littorin, and Eugene O’Callaghan, ex-CEO of Ireland’s Strategic Investment Fund, among several others.
