Greens Supermarket has the honour of becoming the first supermarket in Malta to cater for self-checkout services.
The company, through a video produced by Gadgets Malta, stressed that no employees will be laid off under the new system, and that previous cashiers will be promoted to other areas needed around the supermarket.
Greens said the new system will allow for faster queueing and will help to limit the spread of COVID-19.
The supermarket started from humble beginnings, from a small family grocer in Ibrag in the 1980s, to one of Malta’s most popular supermarkets.
Greens joins Decathlon and McDonald’s in providing self-checkout services, but is the first supermarket in Malta to offer the service.
