Two of the most popular beach locations in Malta, the Buġibba perched beach and St. George’s Bay are now ready for summer’s beachgoers following a major sand delivery carried out by Focal Maritime Services.

While locals and tourists alike will enjoy the comfort of a sandy beach sparing little thought to the process behind it, this preparation involved an extensive logistical operation. Over 5,000 metric tonnes of sand were imported from Akaba, Jordan, and delivered to Malta.

This followed the award of a tender by the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) to Focal Maritime Services, which included the loading of the sand from Akaba, Jordan, the chartering of a suitable vessel for the sea freight from Jordan to Malta, the discharge at the port of Valletta and the transport by road to the two seaside villages respectively.

Jesmond Abela, Deputy General Manager at Focal Maritime Services, noted that the company is “thrilled to contribute to the readiness of Buġibba and St. George's beaches for a fantastic summer season.”

These two beach locations are favourites for both locals and tourists alike, offering prime spots for relaxation and enjoyment.

With the new sand in place, visitors can look forward to pristine conditions as they soak up the sun and enjoy the beautiful Maltese coastline.
