Express Trailers has inaugurated a new €600,000 investment that adds 350 sqm of temperature-controlled storage capacity and a new cross-dock facility as the company seeks to cement its position as a leading logistics provider to the pharmaceutical sector.

Both new facilities are located adjacent to the company’s head office building and form part of a long-term project initiated in 2013.

At the time, the firm had inaugurated its first two temperature-controlled warehousing facilities purposely designed and built for the storage of pharmaceuticals.

The current investment adds another warehouse with a potential occupancy of 600 pallets.

Addressing the inauguration of the new facilities, Express Trailers’ Chief Executive Officer Etienne Attard said: “Any pharmaceutical sector is as strong as the logistics setup that supports it.

“Over the years, we continued to invest heavily to meet the industry’s growing requirements in terms of quality of service, handling, certifications and warehousing.”

All facilities are licensed by Malta’s Medical Authorities and complement Express Trailers’ international pharmaceutical transport services which meet EU pharma ‘good distribution practices’ standards.

Mr Attard noted that the company has also recently invested in a new fleet of temperature-controlled trailers.

Franco Vella, Director at Express Trailers who project managed the latest investment, said that its completion enables the company to “continue guaranteeing professional high-standard storage and final delivery of pharmaceutical products to and from any point in Europe.”

Pharmaceuticals make up a large part of Malta’s economy, with 18.9 per cent of total exports categorised as life sciences exports.
