The cyclists participating in the ALIVE 2026 Cycling Challenge for Cancer Research arrived from Malta and were welcomed at Vienna Airport by representatives from the Embassy of Malta in Vienna and VisitMalta.
Since its establishment in 2013, the ALIVE Charity Foundation has grown into one a dedicated and impactful voluntary organisation, committed entirely to supporting local cancer research. To date, the foundation has donated an extraordinary €1.1 million to the University of Malta Research, Innovation and Development Trust (RIDT).
Run entirely by volunteers and operating without administrative overheads, the foundation ensures that 100 per cent of public donations, excluding the direct costs associated with fundraising activities, are channelled directly into funding vital cancer research conducted within the laboratories of the University of Malta.
The ALIVE 2026 Cycling Challenge for Cancer Research brought together 35 cyclists who embarked on a demanding route beginning in Slovakia and continuing through Hungary, Croatia and Slovenia before concluding in Vienna, Austria.
Over the course of six days, participants covered a 1,100 kilometres by mountain bike.
The challenge officially concluded in Vienna on 3rd July 2026. To mark the achievement, a reception was held at the Hilton Waterfront Vienna, hosted by the Embassy of Malta in Vienna and supported by Xjenza Malta, VisitMalta and Twistees.
The Malta Tourism Authority and VisitMalta commend the ALIVE Charity Foundation and all participating cyclists for their extraordinary efforts in raising awareness and support for cancer research, while proudly showcasing Malta’s spirit of resilience, solidarity and community beyond its shores.
