Opposition Member of Parliament Eve Borg Bonello is the youngest person featured on the global 30 under 30 exceptional young leader list.
The list was published by the Young India Foundation (YIF), an NGO dedicated to empowering youth participation in India’s political and democratic processes.
Sharing the achievement on her Facebook page Ms Borg Bonello stated that she is honoured and humbled to make it on the list.
“Here’s to cleaner, grassroots politics and young representation in our highest political institutions,” she said.
The list, which is published every year on National Youth Day, celebrates the birth of Swami Vivekananda and honours his vision of empowering young people to shape the world through it. This year, the NGO extended the list beyond India to include extraordinary young leaders from across the globe.
By going global, the foundation aims to highlight the shared challenges young leaders face, including advocating for climate action, social justice, and economic reform.
Joining Ms Borg Bonello on the list are Karoline Leavitt, who is the youngest Press Secretary Designate in the United States; Takudzwa Ngadziore, who is the youngest Member of the Zimbabwe National Assembly; Romina Pourmokhtari, who is Sweden’s Cabinet Minister of the Ministry of Climate and Enterprise; and Jordan Bardella, the President of France’s National Rally and a Member of the European Parliament, among others.
In 2022, Ms Borg Bonello became the youngest member ever be elected to the Maltese Parliament at just 19 years old. This also made her the youngest sitting member in a national legislature.
She entered the political scene in 2019 after becoming vociferous during Malta’s political crisis following the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.
Ms Borg Bonello became highly vocal against former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and frequently advocated for good governance, the rule of law, and democracy.
