David Curmi has been appointed non-executive Director of International Hotel Investments p.l.c., owners and managers of the Corinthia hotels and several other real estate projects, effective from 17th February 2021. He is replacing Winston Zahra who has now retired.
The Board of Directors welcomed Mr Curmi and also thanked Mr Zahra for his services during his term, wishing him all the best for the future.
Mr Curmi is a financial services professional and corporate executive. He is currently the Executive Chairman of Air Malta p.l.c., the flag carrier airline of the Maltese Islands. He is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute of the United Kingdom and a Chartered Insurer.
He is also a Director of Midi p.l.c., Deputy Chairman of Plaza Centres p.l.c., Director of QP Management, Member of the Board of the Doctoral School (University of Malta), Chairman of L.B. Factors Ltd (a Lasselsberger Group Company) and Member of the Board of the Insurance Protection and Compensation Fund.
Mr Curmi is well known as the CEO of MAPFRE MSV Life, a post he occupied for around 10 years. In January 2021, he stepped down to focus his attention on Air Malta, where he stressed that with the mammoth challenges posed by COVID-19 to the aviation sector, his role as Chairman will require much of his attention.
