Malta has lost a historian, researcher, and collector with the passing of Tony Terribile on Thursday (today).
Widely respected for his deep knowledge of Maltese history, heritage, and religious folklore, he leaves behind a legacy of invaluable contributions to the study and preservation of the country’s traditions.
Minister for Social Policy and Children’s Rights Michael Falzon paid tribute to Mr Terribile, describing him as an old friend. “Tony was a historian and a researcher, and I considered him a living encyclopaedia. Today, Malta has lost a person who contributed greatly to increasing knowledge about our history and traditions,” he added.
Mr Terribile dedicated much of his life to researching and documenting Malta’s rich heritage.
His extensive work covered various aspects of the country’s history, art, and cultural identity.
He was one of the first members and former president of Għaqda Dilettanti Mudelli ta’ Knejjes, which is devoted to the craft and appreciation of church models.
The same organisation described him as “an expert in Maltese religious folklore.”
Beyond his scholarly pursuits, Mr Terribile was a passionate collector of religious, cultural, and artistic artefacts. Among his most prized collections was a vast assortment of holy cards featuring reproductions of paintings and sculptures with religious themes.
