Air Malta has pledged to increase the number of women in senior positions and under-represented areas in a “celebration of diversity and inclusion to make the aviation industry more gender-balanced”.

On Tuesday 8th March (International Women’s Day), the national airline announced that it has signed the International Air Transport Association’s 25by2025 initiative, along with 101 other airlines.

The IATA 25by2025 is a global initiative that aims to change the gender balance within the aviation industry by improving female representation by 25 per cent, or up to a minimum of 25 per cent, by 2025.

Signatories also commit to regularly report on key diversity metrics, with annual progress reports on the initiative to be shared at the IATA World Air Transport Summit.

Speaking about this initiative, Air Malta’s Executive Chairman David G. Curmi said, “We are delighted to be partnering with other airlines in this celebration of diversity and inclusion to make the aviation industry more gender balanced.

“We will continue working to recognise female talent and create opportunities for women in which they can thrive, as this will make our airline stronger. Diversity and equality are core values at Air Malta, and we are committed to improve female representation within the airline and become a change agent in the aviation industry to make it truly diverse and inclusive.”

Air Malta said that by subscribing to this IATA initiative it will join a global community of airlines to share and learn from best practices designed to help it and the industry attract and retain the very best talent and rebuild the industry.
