National carrier Air Malta plc is in the process of altering the cabin of its Airbus A320 9H-AEP to increase its capacity from 168 seats to 180.
In a post shared on social media, Air Malta Executive Chairman David Curmi stated that the aircraft is being fitted with “brand new seats” so that passengers can benefit from “added comfort”.
He added that the cabin reconfiguration and seat refitting are being carried out by the airline’s engineering and maintenance teams.
“A job very well done within the planned timeframe,” Mr Curmi said, before adding that the aircraft will be back in service this week.
The aircraft’s first flight came back in 2007. Its most recent flight was on 25th June, when it left Brussels Airport for Malta International Airport.

The reconfiguration comes despite Air Malta’s uncertain future, with it awaiting a verdict from the European Commission on whether the Government’s request to inject state aid into the airline will be approved. The airline is reportedly set to wind down operations by the end of the year, with a new flag-carrier set to take its place.
