Prime Minister Robert Abela has announced the theme for tonight’s budget: ‘A better tomorrow’.

Taking to social media, Dr Abela said this was the motto for the Government’s “multimillion” economic regeneration plan which will provide a boost for families and a breather for businesses.

He said the plan is based on the state’s trust in the local population.

“We are convinced that our country will continue with its economic success through which everybody benefits,” he boldly said.

Almost all sectors of the local economy have been re-opened, with non-essential retail among the first wave to re-start in early May.

Gatherings of up to 75 people based on a one person per four metres squared rule have been permitted, while gyms, bars, restaurants and lidos have been allowed to re-open.

Members of the business community coming from various sectors, such as tourism, retail, language schools, bars and restaurants have cautioned that if the state COVID-19 wage subsidy were to be lifted too soon, while business is slow to pick up, this would result in significant financial turmoil and a further rise in job losses.
