An economist by profession, Silvio Schembri, the present Minister for the Economy and Industry, is an experienced lecturer in economics with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education industry.

Born in Luqa, the second child among four siblings, he is experienced in political communication, negotiation, sustainable development, political science and analytical skills. Mr Schembri is a strong education professional with a Master’s Degree in Economy and a Bachelor’s of Honours Degree in Economics from the University of Malta. He is a former student of St Augustine College.

He was appointed Economy Minister after successfully occupying the post of Junior Minister for Financial Services, Digital Economy and Innovation within the Office of the Prime Minister for two and a half years.

“As Minister for the Economy and Industry, I am responsible, among other things, for Malta’s economy, industry, external trade, international trade and cooperation, Government investments, small businesses, trade promotion, the digital economy and artificial intelligence,” Mr Schembri explains.

The entities falling under his political umbrella include Malta Freeport Corporation, Bank of Valletta, Malta Government Investments Ltd, Malta Information Technology Agency, the National Blockchain Strategy Foundation and the Malta Gaming Authority.
