Part of the Malta Communications Authority’s senior management team, Robert Mifsud has been leading the Regulator’s External Relations function since 2015.

“My role,” he explains, “entails coordination of EU and international activity including participation in various fora and assuming formal relations on behalf of the Authority with external entities.

“I also lead the Authority’s end-user function that enforces consumer protection as emanating from EU and national rules in the electronic communications and postal sector.”

In addition, Mr Mifsud coordinates corporate communications and PR activity with the aim of supporting the achievement of the MCA’s goals across all its operational disciplines.

Prior to joining the communications watchdog, he worked in public sector management consultancy for 15 years, giving strategic advice to the Government and project managing a large number of initiatives including operational and organisational reviews and audits, drafting of national strategies, auditing EU projects and leading change management programmes such as the euro changeover preparations in the public administration.

The MCA, which will mark its 22nd anniversary in January, is the statutory body responsible for the regulation of the electronic communications sectors, including fixed and mobile telephony, internet and TV distribution services. Regulation of  the postal service and the eCommerce sector also falls within its ambit.
