As one of the few women in the local construction industry, Denise Xuereb has had many meaningful achievements throughout her journey.
“My passion for construction began in my teens, inspired by my father's entrepreneurial endeavours. After earning a B.Com Hons in Management from the University of Malta in 2018, my first major project was to oversee the finishing stages of the five-star AX The Palace, in Sliema,” she explains.
Furthering her expertise, she pursued an MSc in Project and Programme Management at Ecole Superieure de Commerce, Paris, following which she managed large-scale national construction projects such as the new parliament building and the restored Opera House, in Valletta.
Since her appointment as Director of AX Construction in 2010, she has spearheaded numerous restoration projects aimed at preserving and enriching Malta's architectural heritage. Her portfolio includes iconic works such as the restoration of St John’s Co-Cathedral and the Jesuits’ Church in Valletta, the transformation of Palazzo Lucia into prestigious office spaces in Valletta, the restoration of Villa Luginsland, a Grade I historic property in Rabat, as well as significant projects like the Maritime Museum and the visitor centre at St Paul’s Catacombs.
“Presently, I’m leading transformative projects such as the soon-to-be-completed residential development of the Verdala Terraces, the Verdala Wellness Hotel in Rabat, which is in its final stages before opening, and Phase 2 of the extensive redevelopment of the AX ODYCY destination,” Ms Xuereb says.
She serves as an Executive Director on AX Group's Board, is Vice President of the Malta Developers’ Association and advocates sustainable development in the Building Industry Consultative Council. Engaging in international forums, she also promotes innovative and eco-friendly construction practices, ensuring quality and functionality for future generations.
