Ann Fenech heads the Marine Litigation Department at Fenech & Fenech, where she served as Managing Partner between 2008 and 2020. For the last 38 years, she has practiced maritime law exclusively, having started in London in 1986, followed by a period in New Orleans before joining Fenech & Fenech in 1992 to set up the Marine Litigation Department.

Her experience spans the cross section of maritime disputes in the maritime space including salvage, pilotage, towage and collisions, emergency casualty response, shipbuilding contracts, arrests and judicial sales, and maritime transactional work. She has advised key international maritime operators and was engaged by the Malta Privatisation Unit during the privatisation of Malta Drydocks. She also acts as legal correspondent for the West of England, the American Club, and Steamship Mutual.

In 2022, Dr Fenech was elected President of the Comité Maritime International (CMI), after previously serving as Vice President. She has led, on behalf of CMI, the UNCITRAL project on the Convention on the International Effects of Judicial Sales of Ships and facilitated the second signing ceremony of the Convention in Malta in 2024. She regularly lectures on maritime law, has contributed to numerous legislative reforms in Malta, and was recognised in the Lloyd’s List Top 100 in both 2022 and 2023. In 2024, she received the Newsmaker of the Year Award.
