Business Profile

I am Head of the Marine Litigation Department at Fenech & Fenech Advocates, and was Managing Partner of the firm between 2008 and 2020. In 1986 I joined HFW London until I moved to Chaffe McCall Phillips Toler and Sarpy in New Orleans in 1991. I created the Marine Litigation Department at Fenech & Fenech and have dealt exclusively with maritime issues for the past 37 years. I lecture at the University of Malta and the International Maritime Law Institute. I was the President of the Malta Maritime Law Association from 2008 to 2022, Board Member of the European Maritime Law Organisation and founding Board Member of the Malta Maritime Forum. In October 2022 I was elected President of the Comité Maritime International which is a 125-year-old organisation which drafts the majority of international maritime legislation. I was also the CMI Co-Ordinator at working group Vl at UNCITRAL, which worked on the Convention on the International Effects of Judicial Sales of Ships, adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations in December 2022 and which will be signed in Beijing in September 2023.
