Business Profile
I am Head of the Marine Litigation Department at Fenech & Fenech Advocates and was Managing Partner between 2008 and 2020. I have practised exclusively in maritime law for 38 years, having started my career in London in 1986, followed by a period in New Orleans before joining Fenech & Fenech in 1992 to set up the Marine Litigation Department.
My experience spans the cross section of maritime disputes in the maritime space including salvage, pilotage, towage and collisions, emergency casualty response, shipbuilding contracts, arrests and judicial sales, and maritime transactional work. I’ve advised key international maritime operators and was engaged by the Malta Privatisation Unit during the privatisation of Malta Drydocks. I also act as legal correspondent for the West of England, the American Club, and Steamship Mutual.
In 2022, I was elected President of the Comité Maritime International (CMI), after serving as Vice President. I have led, for CMI, the UNCITRAL project on the Convention on the International Effects of Judicial Sales of Ships and facilitated the second signing ceremony of the Convention in Malta in 2024. I regularly lecture on maritime law, have contributed to numerous legislative reforms in Malta, and was recognised in the Lloyd’s List Top 100 in 2022 and 2023. In 2024, I received the Newsmaker of the Year Award.
