The Westin Dragonara Resort, located in St. Julian’s, has been voted the “Mediterranean's Leading Resort 2020” at the 27th annual World Travel Awards.
Having just completed a full renovation costing €40 million, the Westin Dragonara Resort markets itself as a wellness retreat with innovative amenities, “perfect for business travellers and families alike”.
Michael Camilleri Kamsky, General Manager of the resort, said,“This certificate gives my team and I great satisfaction because it is the result of a nomination by our customers and guests directly.”
Mr Camilleri continued, “The nomination is a living endorsement that The Westin Dragonara is truly ‘the gateway to luxury in Malta’ which is what we all constantly strive for.”
The Westin Dragonara had won the same regional award in 2013, apart from being recognised on the national level in 2014, 2015 and 2017.
This year’s national winners include Rosselli as Leading Boutique Hotel, AX The Palace as Leading Business Hotel, Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa as Leading Hotel, and Kempinsky Hotel San Lawrenz as Leading Resort. The Grand Hotel Excelsior’s Presidential Suite won the award for Leading Hotel Suite.
The World Travel Awards have been described by the Wall Street Journal as the “Oscars” of the global travel and tourism industry.
They were established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all key sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries.
Tourism operators can nominate themselves for the award or be commended by World Travel Awards representatives. Voting is open to the public and to industry professional.
The 2020 Awards saw a record number of votes cast by the public.
