Statistician Vincent Marmara recently announced that he has been promoted to Associate Professor at University of Malta (UM).

Prof. Marmara has been lecturing statistics and mathematics at UM for more than 13 years.

“With pleasure I would like to inform you that several international academics together with Maltese Professors, felt that I met all the necessary criteria to be given the promotion of Associate Professor,” he shared.

He added that this comes after they recognised his work on various levels, including his academic profile, research profile, contribution during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well the work he does with the public about a number of surveys on different themes, including the ‘State of the Nation’ project.

Prof. Marmara holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Mathematics, Statistics and Operations Research from UM, as well as a Master of Science in Statistics from The University of Sheffield (UK). He also has a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Mathematics (Statistics) from The University of Stirling (UK).

Away from academia, Prof. Marmara is also the Owner of research company Sagalytics.

His experience includes a number of years working in analysis and regulation-related positions at various iGaming businesses and entities. He also spent a year as Deputy CEO and Chief Regulatory Officer at what was then known as the Lotteries and Gaming Authority, now the Malta Gaming Authority.

Prof. Marmara lends his professional consultancy services to various organisations and has also authored several academic articles published in international journals, together with other national scientific surveys.

He has been a Board Member within the Malta Statistics Association (MSA) since 2017. Prof. Marmara is also a Fellow Member of the UK’s Royal Statistical Society.
