Healthcare and life sciences investor Olea Venture Partners has invested in Malta-founded AI company EBO as the latter seeks to expand its healthcare technology internationally.

The investment will be used to increase the adoption of EBO’s technology across healthcare systems and providers, extend its application to new clinical and operational workflows, and finance further expansion across Europe and into the United States.

Founded and led by CEO Gege Gatt, EBO develops AI-powered patient engagement and workflow automation technology for healthcare organisations.

Its technology is used to automate interactions including appointment management, self-assessments and patient pathway communications.

EBO currently operates commercially in Malta, the UK, Italy and Greece, with 24 live deployments across UK NHS Trusts and hospitals.

Olea Venture Partners Founding and Managing Partner Harietta Eleftherochorinou said the investor was attracted by EBO’s existing deployment of its technology in healthcare environments.

She said the company has recorded patient adoption rates of up to 97 per cent and customer returns on investment of up to five times.

“Gege and the EBO team have shown that they can do what remains difficult in healthcare AI: move from promising technology to trusted, repeatable deployment in real health systems,” she said.

Olea Managing Partner Lampros Kourtis added that the company’s next phase would centre on scaling its existing operations.

The investor is expected to work with EBO on increasing adoption in the UK, strengthening its presence in Southeast Europe and entering the US, alongside developing healthcare partnerships and its commercial strategy.

Commenting on the investment, Dr Gatt said it represented a “vote of confidence” in EBO and its growth prospects.

“With Olea, we have a partner who understands that healthcare innovation succeeds through trust, evidence and disciplined execution,” he said.

Olea Venture Partners specialises in healthcare and life sciences investments and is backed by the European Investment Fund and supported by EquiFund II. Its founding partners have more than 50 years of combined experience across the US, UK and Europe.
