A comprehensive price comparison research reconfirms that Lidl Malta, the supermarket chain with twelve stores on the Maltese islands, is the market leader for value, with households saving over €30 on their weekly grocery bills without ever compromising on quality. The independent fieldwork of the advisory firm EMCS Advisory Ltd, highlights Lidl’s commitment to delivering maximum value, proving that top-tier product standards and competitive pricing go hand in hand.
In-store price comparison reveals direct savings
The market research, which evaluated a typical weekly shopping trolley of 28 everyday grocery products at Lidl Mosta against equivalent items at six competing local supermarkets, revealed a notable price difference. While the average total price for the basket across participating competitors stood at €104.00, the exact same basket at Lidl cost just €73.45 - representing a direct saving of €30.55 for consumers.

To ensure absolute transparency, products were matched on a strict like-for-like basis, taking into account type, size, quality, and intended use. The 28 items tracked encompass daily essentials that Maltese families rely on, including fresh produce, dairy, meats, pantry staples, and household favourites, proving that families do not need to sacrifice their standard of living to lower their expenses.
Uncompromising transparency and integrity
To maintain the highest level of objectivity and trust, the physical purchasing of all products was carried out by EMCS Advisory Ltd. as the independent field institute. Their researchers visited all seven individual stores on the exact same day, 10th July 2026, reporting the price check in a complete and comparable manner. This comprehensive study focused on major supermarkets across the islands, comparing prices at PAVIPAMA in Qormi, Eurospin in Mosta, Welbee’s in Santa Venera, Smart in Birkirkara, Interspar in Ħamrun, Greens in Mrieħel, and Lidl in Mosta.
"Delivering the highest quality products at prices that fit comfortably within our customers' household budgets has always been our core mission in Malta, and we continue to invest heavily to ensure it remains that way," said Owen Micallef, Lidl Malta Director. "For us, value isn't just about a lower price tag - it’s about offering great products that people trust, at prices that genuinely help them save. We remain dedicated to being a reliable partner for local households, proving week in, week out, that top-tier quality and real savings go hand in hand."
