The owner of Mosta beauty salon D Beauty Bar said she ended up spending €4,000 to install a voltage stabiliser due to constant voltage fluctuations.

“The voltage fluctuations began around mid-June, but there were initially just two a day and lasted five minutes at a time,” Daniela Camilleri tells WhosWho.mt.

“However, it really intensified during this week’s heatwave, and the lights went out around 30 times in three hours on Tuesday.”

She said the fluctuations tend to start at around 4pm, presumably as people start returning home from work and electricity consumption rises.

Ms Camilleri was told the salon was being affected while neighbouring homes were not because the business is connected to a three-phase meter.

She expressed her frustration with Enemalta, stating that she had been asking them to check out her problem for weeks to no avail.

“Once they told me to simply close at 4pm and tell my clients to come in earlier,” she said. “Many people come to our salon after work, and we have five hours of work after 4pm.”

Ms Camilleri said she invested her life savings to purchase the salon, which opened its doors last month.

However, as the electricity situation made it impossible to operate normally, she ended up spending an extra €4,000 to install a voltage stabiliser.

“I hope the Government subsidises me for this stabiliser,” she said. “This is all the result of issuing so many permits and expanding the population without first fixing the system.”
