Vassallo Group and St Aloysius College announced that they signed an agreement on Tuesday in order to develop, maintain and manage the college’s sports complex, as well as build a new private sports college.

The announcement was made by Vassallo Group on social media, saying: “We are pleased to announce that after years of hard work and preparations Vassallo Group and St Aloysius College – Malta yesterday evening signed a final deed to develop, maintain and manage the St Aloysius College Sports Complex.’

Additionally, Vassallo Group stated that they will be building and managing the Mediterranean College of Sport (MCS), a new independent school that will allow student-athletes to develop their athletic abilities while still furthering their educational paths.

The MCS plans to start receiving students from September 2024 and it will be housed next to St Aloysius College in Birkirkara.

“It is a historic day for both our group and St Aloysisus College. We look forward to contributing to the further development of sport in Malta through the Mediterranean College of Sport as well to seeing hundreds of students making use of the improved and new facilities within this sports complex,” the statement from Vassallo Group added.

The group described this project as one that “will further enhance our contribution towards making our society a better and healthier one.”

Vassallo Group also stated that works on the site will start in the coming days, and that the group is “grateful to both teams for their competence, passion and enthusiasm.”

The new complex is set to have a totally refurbished pavilion, canteens, fitness centres, an outdoor swimming pool, a childcare centre, a gymnastics hall, dormitories, a new seven-a-side football pitch as well as a parking area.

MCS will aim to connect sports and academic studies closely, through a flexible academic environment that is developed according to students’ sporting demands.

With a history of more than 70 years, Vassallo Group has become a leader of numerous sectors within the local market, including property and construction, furniture and interior design, as well as architecture and education.
