University of Malta start-up modl.ai, announced on Thursday that they will be expanding in Malta with exciting collaborations involving Malta Enterprise and UoM Institute of Digital Games

The company will want to attract new partners and talented employees in Malta.

modl.ai CEO, Christoffer Holmgård, said that “Malta has shown to be incredibly adept at attracting talent.”

By expanding in Malta, the company gains access “to a wide talent pool, highly relevant national collaborations”, according to Mr Holmgård who also said that the expansion will allow them to meet their customers where they are, according to Mr Holmgård.

The company specialises in creating AI-driven tools for game development and previously partnered with the University of Malta start-up business support program, “TAKEOFF”.

Their offerings include modl:play, an AI program that tests games for glitches by playing and exploring the game itself, and modl:assure, that uses machine learning to detect cheaters in video games.

The company was welcomed by Malta Enterprise, whose CEO, Kurt Farrugia, said that Malta considers the digital games and AI development industries as central and upcoming, saying “they are in perfect tune with the type of economic growth that Malta wants to attract”.
