Malta-based businesses looking to expand beyond local shores can now apply for the next edition of the Internationalisation Strategy Masterclass, TradeMalta’s flagship programme designed to help companies develop a clear, structured, and actionable export strategy.
Formerly known as the Go Global programme, the masterclass has evolved over the years to reflect the changing realities of international trade and the increasing complexity of global markets. Today, it offers a comprehensive and practical framework that equips businesses with the tools, knowledge and confidence required to internationalise successfully.
TradeMalta remains committed to providing practical and comprehensive support to businesses aiming to expand beyond Malta’s shores, recognising how internationalisation can be a challenging process. The programme has been run for over a decade, assisting a significant number of participants as they developed their export journeys. Over the years, the programme’s structure has been continuously refined to ensure it remains aligned with the evolving challenges faced by Malta-based businesses seeking international growth.
Delivered over ten weeks through weekly sessions, the Internationalisation Strategy Masterclass is aimed at both new and experienced exporters and combines academic rigour with practical application. The programme is delivered by a team of experienced lecturers and practitioners in collaboration with the University of Malta and various business partners, with the support of TradeMalta’s strategic partner HSBC Bank Malta p.l.c.
This mix provides a unique complement of professionals, academics, and seasoned practitioners with extensive experience in teaching, research and direct involvement with businesses. Their coordinated approach ensures a seamless and well-rounded learning experience.
The programme covers the full internationalisation journey, including strategic considerations for international expansion, market entry modes, international market research, networking and relationship management, digital internationalisation, artificial intelligence applications, business planning and more.
Rather than adopting a purely theoretical approach, the masterclass is highly interactive and outcome oriented. Participants are guided step-by-step in developing their own internationalisation strategy and export marketing plan, a working document tailored specifically to their business.
A key component of the programme is the Export Clinic, during which participants receive one-to-one feedback and expert evaluation of their strategy. During these sessions, examiners assess each plan, highlighting strengths, identifying weaknesses, and offering tailored recommendations. This personalised guidance ensures that each company leaves the programme with a robust and realistic roadmap for entering or strengthening its presence in international markets.
Peer learning also plays an important role. The programme includes two panel discussions featuring experienced exporters who provide first-hand insights into the realities of international expansion — from overcoming market-entry barriers to adapting to different regulatory, cultural, and competitive environments. This exchange between seasoned exporters and newcomers reflects TradeMalta’s mission of empowering local businesses to expand internationally.
For many businesses, the masterclass serves as an entry point into TradeMalta’s broader ecosystem of internationalisation support. Participants gain a deeper understanding of the organisation’s services, incentives, and hands-on assistance, often continuing their export journey with ongoing guidance from TradeMalta’s team.
Applications are currently open for the next intake, which will run between 22 April and 24 June 2026, every Wednesday evening, at the Life Sciences Park, San Ġwann. Malta-based businesses with international ambition are encouraged to apply and take a structured, strategic step towards sustainable growth in global markets.
