The University of Malta (UM) has secured a place among the world's top 700 universities for the first time, according to the QS World University Rankings 2027, continuing its steady rise in global higher education rankings.

UM climbed around 50 places to rank 696th worldwide, improving from its position in the 741-750 band in last year's rankings. The latest result marks the University's highest-ever placement and continues a consistent upward trajectory over recent years, having progressed from the 801-1000 band in 2021, 2022 and 2023, to 851-900 in 2024, 751-760 in 2025, and 741-750 in 2026.

The QS World University Rankings assessed 8,808 institutions across 106 locations, with 1,504 universities ultimately making this year's rankings.

Among its strongest performances, UM ranked 21st globally for Employment Outcomes, improving by 19 positions from the previous year. It also recorded notable gains in International Students (420th), International Research Network (358th), and Faculty-Student Ratio (352nd).
