Italian banking giant UniCredit S.p.A. has once again reduced its shareholding in Bank of Valletta plc (BOV), with its ownership dropping to 3.63 per cent as of 4th August 2025.

This marks a notable decline from the 5.21 per cent stake UniCredit held in July, which itself was a decrease from 10.2 per cent reported earlier in the year.

The reduction was formally communicated to BOV through a notification of major holdings, in line with Capital Markets Rules issued by the Malta Financial Services Authority.

Meanwhile, local institutional investor Amalgamated Growth and Income Fund – part of Amalgamated Investments Sicav plc – increased its stake in BOV to 5.56 per cent, up from four per cent. This shift indicates a reshuffling of significant shareholdings among major institutional investors in Malta’s largest bank.

Amalgamated Investments Sicav plc is owned by Mercury plc, which is ultimately owned by the Testaferrata Moroni Viani family.
