Two commemorative coins designed by the Central Bank of Malta achieved two third-place rankings at the Les Amis De L’Euro Awards at the Berlin World Money Fair.

The €2 'Maltese Bee' was classified as the third most beautiful €2 coin of the year, while the €5 ‘Maltese Ox’ coin classified third in the European Denomination of the Year award.

The €2 coin was designed by Maria Anna Frisone while the €5 silver coin was designed by Natalia Danysz.

This is the latest international accolade for the Maltese Bee design, which had ranked first in the European Denomination of the Year award last year.

A €10 silver coin depicting the bee also came out on top in the Best Crown Coin category at the 2025 Coin of the Year Awards in Oklahoma, USA.

“It is a great honour for the CBM to claim such awards simultaneously at the same event and having a design that has to date won three awards,” the Central Bank said.

“This success is testament to the excellent craftmanship of the designers and engravers engaged by the CBM, as well as the dedication and meticulous process of CBM staff in selecting the themes and the final design of its coins.”
