The St John’s Co-Cathedral Foundation has announced the appointment of Tonio Mallia as its new Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Cynthia de Giorgio, who had led the Foundation’s management since 2004.

Mr Mallia served as Director of Procurement and Contracts at the University of Malta between 2010 and 2021, and Director Materials Management and Logistics for Mater Dei Hospital, St Luke’s Hospital and Boffa Hospital.

He also served as Business Development Consultant for different organisations, besides other roles in nursing, the healthcare profession, and care for the elderly.

He assumed full-time duties at the Foundation’s offices in Valletta on 1st April 2022.

The St John's Co-Cathedral Foundation meanwhile thanked Ms de Giorgio for her work towards the “conservation of this national monument to its pristine condition”

The Foundation’s work is related to the conservation and restoration of the works of art and artefacts preserved within the Co-Cathedral.

Since being set up in 2001, the St John’s Co-Cathedral Foundation has transformed the historical monument from a state of abandonment to “a level of conservation that will ensure its preservation for posterity”, Ms de Giorgio said last year, on the occasion of the Foundation's 20th anniversary.
