One of Malta’s most celebrated musicians, Cynthia Turner, 88, passed away on Monday, having tested positive for the COVID virus.
Her Grandson, Paul Caruana Turner, called her an “exemplary woman whose dedication to her craft served as an example to anyone [wanting] to be successful in life”.
“She rehearsed 8 hours a day for more than 60 years and loved every second of it,” he said, continuing “she showed me what it means to be dedicated to your craft and that there are no shortcuts to success”.
Ms Turner was born in Valletta in 1932.
She had a spectacular international career, performing in a number of countries, and appearing on radio and television in Malta, as well as in Italy, France, Germany and Egypt.
A particular highlight came in 1967, when she performed for the Queen.
Ms Turner was a recipient of the National Order of merit and was an associate of the Royal Academy of Music, London.
Her enduring talent was clear. This video, of her playing to her family aged 84, received media coverage at the time.
May she rest in peace.
