Quality water is no longer a luxury – it's a standard we deliver daily to every household in Malta and Gozo. As we continue our nationwide 'Iftaħ u Ixrob' campaign, we're witnessing a transformation in how the Maltese public perceives and experiences tap water.
The science speaks for itself. We've reduced chlorides and chlorine levels by 30 per cent, while our total dissolved solids (TDS) have improved dramatically to approximately 350 mg/L, down from over 500 mg/L in 2021. Every drop is meticulously monitored and tested in our ISO-certified laboratories, meeting and exceeding stringent EU Drinking Water Directive standards.
We've unified water zones across Malta and Gozo, ensuring consistent quality everywhere. To enhance the drinking experience, the Government, through REWS, is offering a 60 per cent subsidy (up to €100) on activated carbon filters, making premium-tasting water accessible to all households.
This isn't just about providing water – it's about building trust. Our tap water undergoes rigorous safety protocols and continuous monitoring, ranking Malta among the top 20 countries globally for water safety. With 70 per cent of our water now coming from reverse osmosis technology, we're delivering some of the most reliable drinking water in the Mediterranean.
The results are clear: our tap water is safe, pleasant to drink, and environmentally sustainable. Open the tap, and drink with confidence. The future of Malta's water is here.
