Local retail chain The Convenience Shop (Holding) plc has entered into a partnership with delivery-only store company Wolt Market as part of its commitment to “bring even more convenience to its customers’ online grocery shopping experience”, it announced on Thursday.

Wolt Market operates through a retail facility that contains no public access and is only limited to the fulfilment of online orders. Customers can place their orders through the Wolt application or website, even having the ability to do so in advance. Deliveries are handled by Wolt courier partners.

Wolt Market is a leader in this segment, operating more than 50 delivery-only stores globally. Its first store in Malta opened in May in Burmarrad, offering a selection of over 2,500 products that range from fresh produce to everyday needs. Wolt Market first launched in Helsinki in 2020, and now has operations in 22 countries.

The Convenience Shop anticipates that this partnership will “bring with it better choice and access” to its products, including Coop branded products, while maintaining affordable prices and delivery times across Malta of 30 minutes or less.

"Delivery-only stores have been on our roadmap for a while and we're thrilled to be partnering up with a customer-obsessed player like Wolt Market. We believe this will open up a wide range of new opportunities for us and our customers," says The Convenience Shop's Chief Commercial Officer Sharon Sammut.

"As our name suggests, we aim to make daily life easier by providing modern convenience to people across the Maltese islands. Delivery-only stores give our shoppers - including those in the business community - a convenient way to shop online, with affordable prices and efficient delivery," she added.

"We are delighted to be working closely with The Convenience Shop," Wolt Market General Manager in the Mediterranean Region Athanasios Bilalis said, before adding that "the partnership allows us to offer even more options and better service to our customers".

"Our goal is to build the best-in-class customer experience in our field and the assortment plays a massive role in that. The collaboration allows us to optimise our product portfolio based on customer needs which means we can be helpful with even more weekly shopping needs," he concluded.

Based on offering customers a “one-stop solution” to any last-minute essentials they may need, The Convenience Shop has become a well-known retail brand in Malta ever since the opening of its first outlet in 2009. Today it has 80 outlets across 40 locations in Malta, with more than 400 employees.
