The Acting Governor of the Central Bank of Malta (CBM), Alexander Demarco, signed a collaboration agreement with the Heritage Parks Federation, represented by Martin Galea and Darren Saliba, pledging CBM's support towards the restoration and conversion of a dilapidated British military building at the Majjistral Nature and History Park, into a multi-purpose exhibition hall.

The hall is “aimed at providing space for activities and exhibitions, and a location for community-related activities,” read a statement from CBM.

Situated along the North-Western part of the coast of Malta in Għajn Tuffieħa, Il-Majjistral Nature and History Park occupies a series of British barracks constructed in the aftermath of World War Two to serve the British military stationed in Malta. The barracks were included under the remit of the Majjistral Nature and History Park in 2011, and form part of a Special Area of Conservation. They are currently managed by the Heritage Parks Federation.

The restoration of this building forms part of a broader initiative which the Heritage Parks Federation is currently pursuing and is expected to achieve lasting visibility since it will be promoted for the use and enjoyment of the wider community.

Additionally, this building has the potential of becoming one of the main attractions in the area focused and dedicated to arts, culture and sport.

Mr Demarco highlighted that the collaboration agreement aligns with the Central Bank of Malta’s Corporate Social Responsibility’s commitments, through its CBM Fund, in supporting a restoration project focused on sustainable development, the preservation of Maltese heritage, and the advancement of initiatives in the arts, culture, and education sectors.

Narcy Calamatta, Chairperson of the CBM Fund, was also present for the signing of such collaboration agreement.
